Pirate Room Open at Labyrinth in Downtown Portland

Mutiny is now available to book at Labyrinth Escape Games in Downtown Portland. According to their website:

“A swashbuckling adventure for all ages, with a little bit of spooky pirate atmosphere inspired by The Goonies, and Hook. Blending history and fantasy inspired by Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean, Mutiny will be sure to please for years to come.”

It looks like Mutiny has keelhauled Blitzkreig at the Portland location.

New Room at Stumptown Escape Games

It looks like there is a new room at Stumptown Escape Games: Pineapple Express: An Oregon Files Story. “You have one hour to find all of the snacks, get the cabin put back together and get out before you too are up in smoke.”

Escape Games PDX Retiring Prison Break (Plus…Great Prison Escape Movies)

Escape Games PDX has retired their Prison Break room, with “an even better experience for you in the future.” In the meantime, try out their other rooms:

  • Film Noir
  • Amnesia
  • Portlandia
  • Sherlock’s Secret

We’ve done all the rooms at Escape Games PDX and had a good time. During Prison Break, a key (the correct key) broke off in the lock, so that complicated things a bit. But complications are to be expected during prison breaks. While we wait to see what Escape Games PDX comes up with next, check out some of our favorite prison break films:

  1. The Great Escape
  2. Escape from Alcatraz
  3. The Shawshank Redemption
  4. Papillon
  5. A Man Escaped
  6. Stalag 17
  7. Cool Hand Luke
  8. Midnight Express
  9. The Grand Illusion
  10. Down by Law

Mental Trap Beaverton is Closed. Moving to Portland.

Mental Trap in Beaverton is now closed (well, closed as of November 1, 2018. Sorry). It looks like they were forced to leave. Mental Trap had some of the most fun sets, thanks to their background in haunted houses. But the good news is, they’ll be coming Portland. According to their website, they will be “moving to Portland very soon.”

Their facebook page shows some photos of their new rooms: Fortune Teller and No Vacancy. This will be opening in the Glowing Greens location in Downtown Portland on SW Taylor between 5th and 6th.

Stay tuned for more news about when they open. We’re looking forward to checking out their new rooms.

New Room Coming to Portland Escape Rooms

Portland Escape Rooms (in Beaverton) has a number of escape rooms we’ve done over the years, including:

Trapped in a Room with a Zombie is on its way out with a new room scheduled to arrive in April, according to an email from Portland Escape Rooms. The email also says there will be a contest coming with a chance to win tickets to the new game:

“Anxious to see what we have in store? You’ll have plenty of chances to guess what the big reveal is. We’ll be teasing this new game in the weeks to come. Keep an eye out on our social media for a chance to throw out your best guess and possibly win free tickets to our newest game!”

Stay tuned to find out what the new room will be. We’ll be sure to check it out soon after it opens.

New Horror Room at Hour to Midnight

Hour to Midnight in NE Portland has a new room! House of Darkness is the newest room to open from the company that brought us some of our favorites, including Secrets of Nibiru and Assassin’s Deadly Game.

“One day Arthur Holmwood’s wife was exploring the old ruins near their home, she never returned… Arthur searched for her but all he found was a scrap of her dress with some blood on it. He ventured into the ruins but was never seen again…”

Nibiru bested us as it was too much to handle for just two of us, but we really enjoyed the sets, theme, and atmosphere. We also had a lot of fun with the surpises and design of Assassin’s Deadly Game. We can recommend both of the rooms we’ve done at HTM and are looking forward to House of Darkness.

MindTrix Comes to Clackamas Town Center

MindTrix is the newest escape room in the Portland area. They have opened 2 rooms (with another coming soon) inside the Clackamas Town Center Mall. We checked out The Time Machine and Tesla’s Mystery and enjoyed both. Check out MindTrix and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Escape Rooms Inside Shopping Malls

Escape rooms inside shopping malls or shopping centers can be a benefit to enthusiasts. The public booking system that is prevalent in U.S. escape rooms continues to be a thorn in my side. It can lead to bad match-ups (like we experienced in Portland Escape Rooms’ Kidnapped) or overcrowded rooms.

When an escape room is inside a mall or public shopping area, it makes it easier to walk in and inquire about open booking times. Like most European escape rooms, you can walk in and ask about the rooms, which are available, and if there is anyone else pre-booked.

Another pet peeve of mine is popping into an escape room that only does online bookings or does not offer same-day bookings. (Looking at you, again, Portland Escape Rooms). Especially when a location offers more than one room, dynamic booking allows you to do multiple rooms in a row where an online scheduler may prevent it.

Check out or list of escape rooms in and around Portland and let us know which are your favorites.

Mad Genius Comes to SE Portland

[Update: Mad Genius now has 3 rooms. The newest room, Battle of the Ancients is fantastic and highly recommended. So now you have 3 recommended rooms in one convenient SE location!]

It seems like forever since a new escape room company opened in Portland. Mad Genius has just arrived with 2 rooms. A welcome addition to the Portland escape room scene, check out their Cat Lady and Siren Song rooms. We’re already looking forward to their next addition. See below for more info.

New Portland Escape Rooms for Fall 2018

The rains have started. Summer is coming to a close. That’s ok! We have escape rooms! Some new rooms have just opened up and a couple others should be right around the corner. Check out our latest updates for September 2018:

New Escape Rooms in Portland/Tigard:

“There have long been rumors and murmurs of a fierce rivalry between the witch and the warlock of the enchanted Hawthorne Forest. Locals advise never to step foot in the haunted woods, but you don’t believe in the paranormal…”

  • Escapism – Malice Manor. (Same NE Portland location as Alien Zoo)

“Secrets can be hidden, but never destroyed. This was the harsh lesson learned by the members of the Randle family, whose cursed bloodline came to a tragic and mysterious end nearly a hundred years ago. Since then, tales of ghostly voices, doors that open themselves, and visions of a little girl have haunted the home. The locals call it Malice Manor and avoid it at all costs, though certain brave souls have ventured inside and lived to regret it. Now it’s up to you to unravel the mysteries of the Randle family, and of the child whose soul remains trapped there.”

“Nikola Tesla’s beloved Wardenclyffe laboratory sat abandoned for years following his death. The recent rehabilitation of the site has unearthed inventions never disclosed to the public. You and your team are investigating the lower levels of the facility when you come across a door that looks to have not been opened in nearly one hundred years. Behind that door, one of those previously unknown inventions has been activated and will destroy all electronic devices in the Western Hemisphere. That is, unless you stop it.”

New Rooms Coming Soon

  •  Northwest Escape Experience – No timeline on this one, just an email with the following image. Flaming tire tracks? One guess would be something along the lines of a time-traveling DeLorean? We’ll keep you posted.
